About Me

PhD Student at Virginia Tech. Technology and Construction Enthusiast.

Currently, I am pursuing my Ph.D. degree in Environmental Design and Planning at Virginia Tech. My research focus is on applied technologies on Infrastructure Development such as Cyber-Physical Systems, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Smart Systems, and BIM Management. My current research explores and seeks to improve the active role of information as knowledge management to improve the productivity of activities during working operations in the construction industry. In particular, I am interested in ways to actively support human-centric activities that severely impact the productivity of projects. Some of the approaches I consider for my research are cyber-physical systems(CPS), human-centered automation (HCA), human-computer interaction, and knowledge delivery through modalities such as voice assistants and Augmented Reality.

I obtained my Master degree in Civil Eng. with an emphasis on Construction Engineering and Management from Virginia Tech. I came to the United States to do my graduate studies after I got the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship in my home country, El Salvador. During my professional career, I was able to get experience in multiple places, with a diversity of people, and by engaging in multiple ways of how infrastructure is built including government, private sector, residential projects, commercial projects, project management, fieldwork, from small to large scale projects.

While studying my Master at VT, I enriched my academic experience by being active in leadership organizations and societies within the school such as governing student bodies, the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA), and the Latin American Graduate Association at Virginia Tech. By getting close to these organizations, I learned and strengthen the skills needed to have an active role in the future of construction management.

I set my goals high and plan ahead to achieve them. I know only by constant, hard work, accomplishments can be made as we learn, make mistakes, and overcome the challenges ahead. During my leisure time, I enjoy outdoor activities such as biking, photography, and hiking. Besides, less physical activities I enjoy include reading news, fix stuff, and stream series and movies.
